The paranormal and the occult are certainly the topics I'm most knowledgeable in. I will also be posting however on subjects such as politics, strange news, unknown/strange/humorous history, etc. I'll even more than likely refer you to a book here and there. This particular post is about the rising recent public concern regarding smart meters. These residential utility meters are not too widespread as far as I understand at this point, but there are thousands that have been installed in the U.S. in select cities. Smart meters are a new type of meter used by electric companies that report your home power usage back to your utility company in real time. They are the replacement for the current analog meters most of us currently use. These new meters can also regulate your power use during peak times, which means that you may not be able to use certain devices or appliances during these regulated intervals (without being severely overcharged).
The accompanying video link below explains many of the current general concerns, but doesn't expound upon alleged future purposes of these devices once they become the norm, so I will do that here somewhat. I've heard through alternative news sources that development is being done at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) concerning new technologies designed to be interfaced with these meters. The particular project I heard about centers around the development of kitchen counter-tops that read the R.F.I.D. chips in food packaging, and then transmit the information collected to the smart meter (Which is then relayed to outside sources we can only speculate about at this point [i.e. Big brother? Google? Both??]). This information, I believe, would not very likely end up in the databases of our utility company when/if this actually comes to pass, which makes this significantly more frightening as far as to the degree this technology can intrude upon our privacy.
There is also talk of "smart appliances" being developed that will also transmit to these meters. I also understand that Disney is extremely invested in similar projects, that are intended to eventually result in "smart homes" that will report around 40,000 points of data per residence per day. Disney is also said to use their various theme parks as testing grounds for these new technologies. Some fear this particular approach will eventually lead to chips that will be implanted in our bodies that can also be read by any "smart home". So according to this information, we could all very well one day sit down on our smart toilet in our smart home, and the data concerning our daily bathroom schedule will be transmitted to an outside location. If this is true, it doesn't take much imagination to figure this technology will be implemented relatively soon after in public locations.
I don't buy into everything, as a matter of fact, I buy into extremely little (in general life, and in information I receive, regardless of the medium). At the same time, I've also experienced very strange things that I would have a good deal of trouble believing if I heard the same stories spoken from the lips of another (without some looking into). With that being said, I always keep my mind, eyes, and ears wide open. I suggest you do the same. Anything is possible. I'm usually very busy, so I haven't had a chance to look into this subject extensively. The aforementioned information is simply just what I have come across so far. I apologize if it's a bit sparse, but I'm sort of "going off the cuff" here, and am also short on time. I would love to hear any further info anyone finds on the subject. If you do come across anything, please leave a comment.
